Sunflower Stars feed primarily on bivalves. This unfortunate cockle
clam has been detected by the Sunflower Star which has moved
into feeding position - tube feet are extended around the shells in an
effort to pull them apart. The Cockle performs an amazing act
of escape. With Olympic precision it throws its foot out and performs clam
gymnastics...a sort of flip/flop...in an effort to put more
distance between it and its pursuer. This routine continues until the clam
gets far enough away or gets too tired to flip anymore.

This Kelp Crab has discovered an underwater buffet that is all you can eat, assuming the ling cod guarding the eggs has not spotted you! |
| These Kelp Crab have been lucky enough to come across a dead fish. There is plenty to go around, and there are many crabs that have converged on the feast as if it were a neighborhood barbeque. They pull with pinchers and mouths to tear the dinner apart into smaller, easier to manage pieces. |
